The last AGM held in Africa was in Nairobi in 1991. I am therefore very much looking forward to having another 'African' AGM after such a long time. Africa has historically presented a number of significant challenges for air transport, and we will certainly discuss some of those in depth during our AGM panel discussions in Cape Town.
But now more than ever, the opportunities for air transport to drive social and economic development in Africa, and indeed for airlines to make money in that part of the world, will be more sharply brought into focus. So our discussions will strike a balance between both the challenges and opportunities.
With its rich and diverse cultural history, I think that South Africa will be an unforgettable place to host this event and I anticipate the pleasure of meeting all of our member airlines and industry partners in Cape Town next June.
