Incident: TAP A332 at Sao Paulo on Oct 21st 2016, bird strike

A TAP Portugal Airbus A330-200, registration CS-TON performing flight TP-82 from Sao Paulo Guarulhos,SP (Brazil) to Lisbon (Portugal), departed Guarulhos Airport's runway 09L when upon rotation a bird impacted the left hand engine (CF6). The crew continued the departure, stopped the climb at FL140, subsequently descended the aircraft to FL120, dumped fuel and returned to Sao Paulo for a safe landing on Guarulhos' runway 09R about one hour after departure.

A passenger reported that just when the aircraft rotated for takeoff loud noise like an electric hammer from the left hand side occurred, there were enormeous vibrations in the cabin. The aircraft climbed and levelled off, the noise and vibrations reduced. When the crew attempted to climb the aircraft further, the noise and vibrations increased again, the aircraft stabilized and noise and vibrations disappeared. The captain announced, that they were returning to Sao Paulo, they thought they had hit a bird on takeoff and needed to check the left hand engine out. After landing and inspection of the engine the captain announced, that the engine was badly damaged and they needed to change the aircraft. Another aircraft had just landed and departed as TP-82 about 2 hours after landing back.

A replacement Airbus A330-200 registration CS-TOL reached Lisbon with a delay of 3:20 hours.
