Incident: Air France B772 over Atlantic on May 15th 2011, medical emergency

An Air France Boeing 777-200, registration F-GSPL performing flight AF-406 (dep May 14th) from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to Santiago (Chile), was enroute at FL310 over the Atlantic about 400nm west of Lisbon when a child, about one year of age, suffered an open fracture of a finger when inadvertently jammed. The crew decided to divert to Lisbon, where the aircraft landed safely on runway 03 about one hour later, the child was taken to a local hospital.

The airplane continued the journey after about 2.5 hours on the ground and is estimated to reach Santiago with a delay of 3.5 hours.
