Accident: Delta MD88 at Atlanta on May 28th 2011, blew tyre on landing, gear on fire



A Delta Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-88, registration N941DL performing flight DL-2284 from Pittsburgh,PA to Atlanta,GA (USA) with 43 passengers and 5 crew, blew a right main gear tyre during roll out on Atlanta's runway 08L and vacated the runway onto taxiway B7, when the right main gear was seen on fire. The airplane stopped just past the hold short line and was evacuated through the left hand doors (the tail exit was opened but wasn't useable when the tail cone did not separate as intended), while responding emergency services foamed the gear and put the fire out.

The FAA reported on May 31st that 4 persons received minor injuries and the aircraft received substantial damage. The aircraft blew a tyre on landing and the gear caught fire.
